\\ Three Suspects Arrested for Brazen Armed Robbery inside Restaurant

Just before 4:30 PM on Saturday, August 15th, E911 started receiving calls regarding an armed robbery in progress at the Firehouse Subs in Ashley Park. Units from multiple law enforcement agencies descended on area as witnesses relayed the position of the now fleeing suspects. After running from the scene and crossing over the bypass, the suspects were finally caught and arrested in the parking lot area behind Urban Air / Target.

The Robbery

According to the incident report provided by the Newnan Police Department (NPD), the incident began when a juveniles ( one of the victims ) was walking in the area and came upon a separate group of 3 juveniles ( the suspects ). Initially one of the victims believed he knew one of the suspects and began approaching them before deciding that was in fact a bad idea ( the reason is redacted within the report ) and instead continued walking past them and entering the Firehouse Subs.

A short time later, while inside the restaurant, the initial victim, as well as two other juveniles victims, were approached by the 3 suspects, one of whom has been identified as Jermaine J. Fendley, 17. The victims stated they believed that Fendley was armed because they noticed a firearm magazine was hanging over his top belt line.

After approaching the victims, the suspects allegedly did the following.

  • One suspect sat with a victim, attempted to snatch his backpack, patted down his legs, and stole a pink usb phone charger from his pockets.
  • The suspects approached another victim by the drink machine, attempting to force him into the bathroom. When he refused, they patted down the outside of his pants searching for items to steal.
  • The third victim witnessed this but doesn't seem to have been directly targeted.

The suspects fled, stolen items in hand, after one of the victims was able to call 911.

Capture and Evidence

Thanks to witnesses following the suspects as they fled and providing location information through dispatch, officers were able to quickly locate and detain the three suspects behind the Urban Air. Once detained units worked quickly to positively the three as the wanted suspects, which they were able to do about 15 minutes later.

During a search of the area officers located a camo backpack that had been hidden near a dumpster behind the Dollar Tree. Inside the backpack officers located a FN Model FNX-45 handgun.
