Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office issued the following press release regarding a August 5th, 2025, home invasion that occurred off Herring Rd.

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at approximately 1:30 AM, Coweta County Patrol Deputies responded to the 50 block of Herring Road in reference to a burglary in progress. The homeowner reported that an unknown male had broken into their home. Deputies arrived on the scene and safely removed the homeowner, observing an open window with the screen pulled off. While clearing the home, Deputies found a closed bedroom door which, when they attempted to open it, was forced closed from the other side.

Deputies attempted to call the suspect out of the bedroom, but he did not comply. Deputies then broke the exterior window and observed the suspect holding a knife while holding the bedroom door closed. The suspect continued to disregard the Deputy’s commands, and a pepper ball projectile was deployed along with multiple Taser cartridges, resulting in the suspect falling and dropping the knife. The suspect was then taken into custody.

The suspect, 43-year-old Walter Ruffin of Moreland, Georgia, was charged with 1st Degree Home Invasion, 1st Degree Burglary, and Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers and is being held at the Coweta County Detention Center with no bond.
