Idiocracy wins after road rage leads to slap and becomes a family matter

Just after 9 PM on Sunday, August 17th, officers with the Newnan Police Department (NPD) were dispatched to the intersection of Greison Trail and Bullsboro Dr after E911 received reports of a large fight in the roadway.

NPD units would arrive a short time later and find there was, in fact, a brawl taking place within the roadway among multiple males and females. Units quickly worked to get the suspects separated and began an investigation. According to the officer narrative provided by the NPD the brawl was the result of the following events.

Robert Chris Edwards, 44, of Newnan was operating a motorcycle, traveling north on Greison Tr when he says a vehicle, driven by Morris Anthony Bridges, 22, of Newnan, cut him off. When both vehicles made it to the red light at Bullsboro Dr, Edwards apparently got off his motorcycle and approached Bridges vehicle. This caused Bridges to exit his vehicle and the two began arguing.

Shortly after the arguing began, Bridges slapped Edwards in the face.

In response to this Edwards’ wife, Jacquelyn Paige Edwards, 43, and daughter, Hailey Kris Edwards, 17, exited their vehicle in which they’d been following behind Robert on the motorcycle.

As they began approaching Robert and Bridges, Bridges’ girlfriend, Natel Cousin, 23, of Newnan, exited Bridges vehicle, leaving several children behind, and began fist fighting with Jacquelyn and Hailey Edwards.

At some point while all 5 of them were actively fighting in the roadway, Bridges grabbed Hailey Edwards and threw her into the roadway causing superficial lacerations to her hands and knee.

Fighting ceased when units arrived and after speaking with all the participants officers decided everyone was getting charged with Affray (Fighting), a misdemeanor. Officers handcuffed all five suspects.

Jail records indicate that all 5 suspects were released later that same day.

From onlookers to inmates, a felony lesson in listening

While units were escorting the suspects to patrol vehicles for the short ride to booking, two individuals, Nedra Nekia Andrews, 40, and her daughter, Derriyounna Arlexiusous Andrews, 21, both of Lagrange, began screaming at officers.

While Nedra Andrews was screaming she at one point called one of the officers a ” fucking cracker, ” loud enough that customers and employees at the nearby Arby’s heard it and stopped what they were doing to investigate the commotion.

Multiple officers then gave verbal commands to Nedra and Derriyounna to stop which they ignored before getting in their vehicle and attempting to leave. Officers caught up to the vehicle, again telling them to stop as they were being detained. In response Derriyounna locked the doors to the vehicle and refused to exit. After several more verbal commands to place the vehicle in park and exit, she instead continued to drive away and intentionally struck an officer knocking him down.

Officers made entry to the vehicle through a door and both Nedra and Derriyounna were assisted out of the vehicle and handcuffed before being transported to the Coweta County Jail to join the others.
