Alabama Man Killed in Fiery Overnight Interstate Accident
Semi impacts vehicle stopped in emergency lane causing it to immediately burst into flames.

GSP Provides Preliminary Information, Identifies Victim

The following information was provided by the Georgia State Patrol regarding a fatal overnight accident on Interstate 85 North just before Exit 41.

These are the preliminary findings from the crash investigation conducted by GSP Post 24 Newnan. The investigation remains ongoing.

On July 26, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a Trooper responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 85 Northbound near MM 40 in Coweta County. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Trailblazer was stopped in the far-right lane for unknown reasons. The Trailblazer was struck in the rear by a Volvo bobtail truck. The impact caused the the Trailblazer to rotate clockwise and travel off the east side of the road while also catching on fire. The Trailblazer became fully engulfed in fire with the driver, Tavoris Johnson, age 39 of Troy, AL, still inside. He was confirmed deceased at the scene. The two right lanes were shut down on Interstate 85 northbound for approximately three hours.
