High Fire Danger Event Summary
Occurred February 21st to March 4th, 2025
Published March 5, 2025

Summary

On February 21st, 2025, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a Special Weather Statement warning the public of conditions that constituted a High Fire Danger. These conditions which included low relative humidity, varying winds, and the presence of dry fuel caused by a prolonged period without rain, would continue in varying levels for the next 13 days before ending overnight on March 4th as a low pressure system brought rain and higher humidity to the area.

During this time period Coweta County Fire Rescue and the Newnan Fire Department would respond to an increased volume of dispatches for brush and woods – grass fires across the county. Ranging from burning bushes in parking lots, to small grass fires along the roadways, to multi-acre brush fires that threatened residential structures and required the assistance of Georgia Forestry units with specialized equipment.

In total Coweta County Fire Rescue responded to 76 individual calls for brush fires across the county during this event. Three days in particular, Feb 26th, Mar 1st, and Mar 4th were the heaviest volume with over 10 calls each day.
